HourWorld™ PPC ver. 2.34 Change History
May 3, 1999
Changes since version 2.33
No new features - minor bug fixes only
Fixed cosmetic bug that caused HourWorld's window title bar to flicker on some
monitors.
Improved handling of times in Nepal (Kathmandu, Mt. Everest), where the time
zone is UT + 5:45. Time differentials should now be correct when you select one
of these as the home location.
Changes since version 2.32
Rigged for continuous running... For those of you who start HourWorld and
keep it running for days, weeks, and months, HourWorld will now update the
date at the top of the window.
Improved the version upgrade process... When a new version is run for the first
time, it will merge your old database into the new, keeping all your changes.
Changes since version 2.31
Added command-key equivalents for main display menu.
Updated daylight saving rule for Australia. Fixed bug that kept changes to DST
rules from being saved. Fixed a related bug that kept users from manually setting
DST or Standard time for a location
Changes since version 2.30
Bug fixes only - no new features. Bugs fixed were related to using HourWorld on
computers with more than one monitor or display connected.
Fixed bug that caused crash when starting HourWorld on a system running
multiple monitors.
Size menu on Preferences Dialog now permits sizing for the maximum monitor
size connected in multiple monitor configurations, not just for the main monitor.
If the last time HourWorld was closed, it was on a second monitor, that is where
it will come up when started the next time.
Corrected graphics on "sun bar" graphic on the Sunrise/Sunset screen in the XGA
size.
Changes since version 2.16
Added a new display optimized for 1024 x 768 screens. This new display uses a
larger map image with higher resolution, and features nine clocks.
Added a new feature on initial running of the program that starts the software at
the user's time zone instead of Los Angeles.
Added a new feature to the Sundial screen that displays the percentage of current
solar radiation compared to 100% when the sun is directly overhead.
Added a new feature to the Sundial screen that displays the percentage of current
lunar illumination, compared to 100% when a full moon is directly overhead.
Added a new feature to the Sun Calendar screen that displays the day's maximum
solar radiation, compared to a location on the earth where the sun passes directly
overhead.
Fixed several miscellaneous cosmetic "blemishes", and rearranged some menus.
Added a feature that blends your former database with the revised database in the
new version when you upgrade, keeping your former settings.
Added internal infrastructure for additional clocks and larger maps in future versions.
Changes since version 2.15
Added North Pole and South Pole as database locations, and fixed Day/Night Time
Strips to give appropriate twilight graphics at or near the poles. Since time zones
are meaningless at the poles, both North Pole and South Pole are set to Universal
Time with no daylight saving. To use a different reference time at one of the poles
(you might want to use New Zealand time at the South Pole if your supply aircraft
comes from there), use the Edit... button on the Location Settings display to change
the time zone.
Fixed a recently-introduced bug in the Remove Location routine that prevented the
removal of locations from the database.
Added a feature to the GPS display that draws big red Xs on the locations when
GPSy has lost a valid fix. (This might happen when you hit a bump and the GPS
unit falls off the dash and onto the floor, or when you drive into a parking garage).
This new feature works whenever GPSy 3.20 or later or GPSy Pro 0.83 or later
reports "No Locational Fix".
Corrected the time zone for Aleppo, Syria.
Changes since version 2.12
Added Day/Night Time Strips display to the HourWorld Display menu, and adjusted
documentation. This feature was available in the software in previous versions via
a preferences item to use it in place of the Phone Call Coordinator. Some users
complained that it was too hard to find and activate, so it is much easier now. Both
the Call Coordinator and Day/Night Time Strips are now easily accessible from the
main menu.
Added Day/Night Time Strips as an additional default window option for program
startup.
Made a cosmetic change to the Phone Call Coordinator.
Expanded the database size from a possible 400 locations to a possible 600, and
added coordinates and data for 70 additional locations.
Modified Bubble Help for the new menu adjustments.
Tested the software with pre-release version 0.82 of GPSy™ Pro. All works fine,
except HourWorld still presents a valid-looking GPS display when GPS signal is
lost. GPSy™ shows signal loss properly, but HourWorld does not. Good reason
not to use HourWorld as your only navigation aid!! Anticipate this issue being fixed
in the next release.
Changes since version 2.11
Recompiled with MetroWerks CodeWarrior Professional version 4, using new
Universal Headers for System 8.5 compatibility.
Added additional years both back and ahead to the Year menu. Years now go back
five and ahead 10. Base year for the Year menu is obtained from the system clock
when HourWorld™ starts up, so in 1999 the base year in the year menu will be
1999, etc.
Added checkmarks to Time, Date, and Year menus.
Fixed missing checkmark on Sunrise item on Display menu.
Changes since version 2.10r3
Added minutes to the time strip at the top of the map (effective for VGA and SVGA
sizes only, due to space limitations). The time strip reflects the use of daylight or
standard time at the lome location. Users are reminded that the time strip at the top
of the map is approximate only, as it is not possible to give one time at the top of a map
that is followed by all locations beneath. Alternate red and blue coloring is used for
increased readability.
Added a new Time menu that gives time in AMPM format when AMPM is selected
as the time format in the preferences (AMPM is the default format when HourWorld
is downloaded). Format changes in the Time menu take place the next time HourWorld
is opened after changing the time format preference.
Fixed display of minute advance on the time setting portion of the screen where location
settings are changed. A screen-drawing delay made it appear that the minute changed
when the seconds showed 01. Now the minute changes correctly when the seconds
show 00.
Changes since version 2.10r2
Adjustments to insure compatibility with future operating systems. Minor changes
made to text and control placements in some dialogs.
Updates to documentation.
My earlier product, the 680x0-based WorldClock DA, is removed from download
package to save download time. 99% of purchasers now are using Power Macs,
and want HourWorld instead of WorldClock. WorldClock DA is still available for
680x0 users by email or mail order.
Changes since version 2.10r1
Fixed problem with some pop-up menus that only worked if clicked on the left side.
Changes since version 2.05
Created optional SVGA display size, with larger, more detailed map image optimized
for 800x600 screen. Map image is licensed from The Living Earth, Inc.
Added size preference to preference dialog.
Added time menu for easier exploration and experimentation.
Added arrow-key scrolling to database selection list.
Added return key selection of location to database selection list.
Added escape key cancel to database selection list.
Added web and email access to the HourWorld web site via Internet Config.
Fixed incompatibility with Queue Watcher.
Fixed time adjustment error when selecting new home location in some circumstances.
Changes since version 2.04
Fixed bug when double-clicking in location-selection scroll bar.
Added go-away box for quitting.
Added command-key equivalents:
Command-W to print the current window.
Command-S to save current data.
Command-Y to bring up preferences dialog.
Fixed bugs in Phone Call Coordinator daylight-twilight-night display for Arctic and
Antarctic regions.
Cosmetic changes to location-date-time change screen.
Changes since version 2.03
Recompiled with new development system.
Removed "Sunrise Tomorrow" option (No longer needed with new "Date" menu).
Fixed bug in Phone Call Coordinator when UT option was selected.
Fixed intermittent drawing bug in minute hand of analog clock display.
Fixed overlapping text bug during refresh of digital clock.
Adjusted Balloon Help to new menu configuration.
Fixed a one-hour error when using the "Home Location" checkbox to change the
home location from one on daylight saving to a location on standard time, or
vice versa.
Expanded operational memory slightly to insure successful printing operations.
Changed GPS menu item in the display menu to always be operational. If GPS data
is not available through GPSy™, each location is overwritten with a large "X".
Changes since version 2.02
Minor cosmetic map changes.
Changes since version 2.01
Changed map to image licensed from The Living Earth, Inc.
Fixed bug in GPS menu item. Choosing time zone for GPS position resulted in a
one-hour error during daylight saving time.
Changes since version 2.00
Changed internal daylight saving format for compatibility with Apple's Date & Time
control panel and date/time stamping in email applications. HourWorld™ now
assumes that daylight saving time, when it effect, is one hour ahead of standard
time. This is an oversimplification as some locations in the world use 30 minutes
and others use two hours, but it should produce less confusion for those who use
both Date & Time and HourWorld™ to set their machine location.
Cosmetic - Added shadows behind analog and digital clocks to give 3D effect.
Changes since version 2.0 beta 8
Refined registration key process, allowing two levels of registration - Lite and Full.
Fixed problems with GPS and small display option.
Added ability to make any location the home location by clicking on a clock.
Added "Today" to Date Menu as a way to restore settings after exploring.
Fixed conflict with PaperPort menus.
Revised way HourWorld™ saves daylight saving information in PRAM.
Revised order form to reflect current information.
Changes since version 2.0 beta 7:
Added preferences file (stored in preferences folder in system folder),
allowing users to upgrade to later version without re-entering data.
Added serial number and registration key to permit upgrading existing
software without re-entering data.
The number of permitted locations has been increased from 400 to 600.
Fixed bugs...
A GPS crash when speed in 0.0 to 0.1 MPH range.
Changes since version 2.0 beta 6:
No new features.
Fixed bugs...
Azimuth and direction on clocks (new bug in beta 6).
Text on top of text when animating sundial display.
Current position on map moved to position of clock 7 (new bug in beta 6).
Only left part of default display menu active in preferences.
Tested with System 8.0, 8.1 - PowerBook G3
Tested with System 7.6 - PowerBook Duo 2300
Changes since version 2.0 beta 5:
Added Year menu to menubar. Allows changing year while on any screen.
Little should change except the position and phase of the moon.
Added Date menu to menubar. Allows changing month and day of month
while on any screen. Display should reset to proper display for the new date.
Added a user-adjustable reticle to the Call Coordinator display. This should
allow for easier visualization. When starting up the first time, the new
reticle (blue) appears to the far right. To reposition it, click where you want
it. The new position is remembered and should be the same the next time
you launch the program.
GPS testing continues to show the program stable with GPSy™, System 8.1,
and my PowerBook G3.
Changes since version 2.0 beta 3:
Fixed another bug that caused quitting with Type 10 error with GPS.
Added calling windows option (now default) to the phone call coordinator.
Changed structure of 'loc#' resource to accommodate saving call window info.
Made location editing available for all locations, not just the home location.
Changes since version 2.0 beta 2:
Removed debugging strings.
Changes since version 2.0 beta 1:
Fixed bug in GPS mode that caused program to quit with Type 10 error.
Fixed bug that gave improper display when switching from phone call coordinator
directly to GPS screen.
Changes since version 1.0.8:
Added GPS features. HourWorld™ uses AppleEvents to poll GPSy™ for current
GPS information. GPS reciever and GPSy™ software required. Contact Global
Mapping Systems (www.gpsy.com) for details.
Rebuilt with new compiler.
Added Digital Clocks screen.
Added Phone Call Coordinator screen.
